The Rise of Coaching and Tuition Centres: Examining the Trends

What are coaching and tuition centres for? Well when educational institutions are not fulfilling their purpose, the tuition centres come in aid to students who want to fulfill their educational needs. As a result, most of our educational institutions have lost their utility, and parents are left with no option but to rely more on tuitions for their children. The basic purpose of these coaching centres is to help students get good grades, particularly when they are unable to cope with studies at their respective educational institutions. Due to this reason it has become a profitable business.

As most of the centres are unregistered, no taxation law is applied on their revenues, and their owners expand their business to new horizons, hence it becomes a trending business. But establishing such business is a Herculean task but with the right management and approach it can become easier. In this business too, marketing tactics play an important role in wooing clients. They promise good result, and since parents want their children top-notch and earn good marks or grades, they turn to the centres. But in this sector too marketing strategy plays an important role, which includes teacher’s behavior, his teaching techniques, environment and facilities. If a teacher’s behavior is praiseworthy, students will definitely mention him as a good teacher in front of other students, hence encourage them to get admission in a coaching centre. Similarly, if we look at the opposite side of the picture, bad behavior may also affect the business as marketing mostly relies on attitude.

So, main goal of marketing is to impress students and their parents by hiring quality teachers and offering good education. Teaching techniques of a teacher also plays vital role in attracting students to a tuition centre. Some out-of-box teaching ideas, which may make learning for a student easier, also help in promoting the tuition centre’s business. Appropriate facilities including air conditioners in classrooms in hot and humid weather and heaters in chilly conditions, clean drinking water are some other basic factors of marketing. For tuition business minimal investment is required and in some cases nothing. Minimal in those cases where you open a coaching centre in a rented place and hire different subject specialist teachers. Not a single penny is required if you run it at home. Well established coaching centres do millions of rupees business and give profit not only to their owners but to teachers as well. As a part time job, in some cases teachers earn Rs2 million a year. Tuition business is a world-wide phenomenon.

In Asian countries like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh tuition centres are doing a roaring business. Tuition centres are very helpful, but this trend should be discouraged, because some parents cannot afford this facility. For this, the government should play its part and come forward and improve the education system, putting the brakes on coaching centres. This will not only contribute to improving the literacy rate but to the development of the country as well.
