Report On Personal LSI Assessment
Vision Statement
The LSI is a self-assessment tool designed to give oneself insightful aspects into their own thinking and behavior. This circumplex has given me remarkable details about myself that I had not thought of or considered as my strengths and was pleased to find that I’m predominantly a “Blue”- coincidentally, my favorite color- which really made me appreciate my inner thought processes and how they define my personal and professional (P&P) styles. I firmly believe the quality of my thinking and behavior strongly affects my performance in a professional environment. Similarly, finding out more about my weak areas under the Yellow zone- Passive/Defensive styles and areas of improvement under the Blue Zone-Constructive style have given me much food for thought in order to further develop my P&P styles in the way I want/aspire to.
My strong takeaways from this exercise and the path that I want to journey through life is to continue to be a people-oriented person, which are my key strengths, and to build upon them by limiting my “Dependent” style which will truly enable me to be a better/effective person and leader.
My personal vision is to have a meaningful life for myself and others who I come across. This was something that I read extensively about one of the most powerful executives in the world, Google CEO-Sundar Pichai, who for me, is a model leader/person who places great impetus on his co-workers’ achievements.
It’s important to me to have a career that incorporates such thinking, including constant learning and improvement for myself, but one that also creates an atmosphere of pleasurable learning and improvement for others. I want to work with and around people, and it would be nice if they liked me; but it’s even more important to me that they feel that I have helped them in one way or another. Its not essential that help is only via a good deed, but through an act of kindness or thoughtfulness or some wisdom of mine has touched them.
Self-LSI results
My primary thinking style is “Affiliative” (38 points) under the Constructive ‘Other’ style subset. My “Humanistic-Encouraging” style (35 points) is my second strongest style aspect under the same subset; while a close third is the “Self-Actualizing” (34 points) under the ‘Self’ Constructive style. Other high scoring areas of mine is under the “Dependent” (21 points) style. The areas which I would like to improve over the Fall Term would primarily be to limit my “Dependent” style as it affects both my Affiliative and Humanistic-Encouraging styles. Dependency also reflects a tendency of over-reliance on others for direction and assistance which ultimately defeats the purpose of my leadership aspirations. I would certainly not want to doubt myself while decision making and be overtly sensitive to people’s feelings through those decisions since I do realize that I get affected like the above instance in a personal or even professional set up.
As one-half of the bowtie along with Dependency, my “Achievement” style is something that I would like to further push to the highest level. This is certainly one area of equal importance for improvement since I believe I can be a ‘Great’ leader rather than just a ‘Good’ one, if I can become more Achievement-oriented. The classic example would be this very assignment, which I have left till the very end to complete. I want to make goal-setting a habit and finish my projects well before the hard deadline. Only by setting the standards high can I leave a lasting impression as a leader. Furthermore, I have always been a risk-averse person and have built a career in Credit Risk perhaps owing to this trait. Although, I do realize that I will have to take some moderate risks and a one or two sizable risks in life and my career to achieve beyond the ordinary.
The third and final area that I would like to work on would be to maximize my “Self-Actualizing” style. I have always tried to foster a healthy outlook towards life and feel that this thought process has positively influenced my personal development, relationships and professional effectiveness. I tend to not judge people, love to do the things that I enjoy regularly and also see problems as life lessons and not just a means to failure. However, the single biggest step that I would like to take to improve upon this trait would be finding new ways of doing unpleasant tasks. These tasks end up being hastily done at a time of urgency or need and I would like to fix that by finding more enjoyable/stealthy ways of doing them.
