Role Of Core Technologies In An IT System

There are five core technologies in an overall IT system. The relationship of each field to one another is very significant. Each core technology has notable features which allow an IT system to be proficient. Computer programs are organized set of instructions that a computer uses to direct operations. Programs are essential for the functionality of software and applications. Software and applications have become a very important part of our lives in this information era. Devices used daily such as smartphones and computers operate with the help of computer programs. Operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and MacOS are the products of computer programming. Every application and software we use is a product of a computer program.

All the core technologies in an IT system are dependent on computer programs. Implementation of IT applications across various fields and industries require more skilled computer programs as we progress in technology (Bresnahan, 1999). Communication is an activity that society has been doing since the beginning of time. Computer networks are the systems that allow multiple computers to connect and communicate. The largest computer network used by us daily is the internet. This is a very sophisticated professional disposition. Detailed professional knowledge about advanced computer networks is critical to our progress today. Computer networks allow users on a network to communicate and share resources. Without computer networks, it would be impossible to perform daily communications such as emails. blogs, news, social media, and many other electronic services performed with the help of internet. Massively Online Multiplayer games allow hundreds to thousands of individuals to communicate and play games online (Castañeda, 2009). All these communication applications run on computer networks and are able to function because of computer programing (Sunshine, 1989). A database is another important core technology in an effective IT system. A database stores data in a methodical manner allowing users to retrieve, add and analyze data conveniently. A simple example of a database is the storing of a username and its respective password.

When one enters their username and password, a database retrieves that information if available. We interact with a database daily in our lives whether it is checking our email or playing an online multiplayer game. In many organizations databases serve a crucial part. An example of such organizations is medical organizations. For example, health database organizations (HDOs) improve the quality of care in hospitals, physician’s offices, and government health offices. In many hospitals, databases are the cornerstone of operations. Without the ability to store, retrieve, and analyze data, a hospital would not be able to run. Databases allow hospitals to do this efficiently. In addition, databases are the key for fields such as epidemiology and preventative medicine (Das, 2019). Information Assurance is very important import field that involves information security. There are many federal policies in regards to information security. This part of an IT system is responsible for assessing and managing risks when data is accessed or exchanged between computers. Information stored in a database may be confidential and very important to an organization or individual. When an organization or individual tries to access information, it is important that the appropriate information is provided to the appropriate individual since information can always be breached and stolen. That is why information assurance is important in an IT system.

A relevant example is the example of Health Database Organization (HDO) which has established effective policies to enforce information assurance (Donaldson, 1994). Web technologies are a part of an IT system that is evolving every day. Internet speeds and website functionalities have improved drastically over the decade. Web technologies are becoming more interactive and accessible. In the last decade, the web has metamorphosed the way we search we browse and use information. We can access websites from many devices now than we were able to before. Today's websites display high-quality graphics and provide functions that were once not possible. These functions are made possible now with the help of advancements in computer programs, computer networks, and databases (Proctor, 2010). All the core technologies in an effective IT system and are dependent on each other. Each core technology has a significant role in the computer world. There are careers and schools that focus on just one of these fields. This shows the how vast and important each core technology is in an IT system.
