Technologies In The Medical Field

The use impact technology in the medical field can go from the use of EMR’s (Electronic Medical Records), blood pressure machines, thermometers, EKG’s and many more things. Without technology it would make working in the medical field just that much harder. EKG’s would not exist because there is no way to look at how the heart is functioning under the skin and if there is something wrong with the heart with just your eyes alone.

We need the paper with the printed lines to tell us exactly how the heart is functioning. Some of the other things we can of course do without the use of technology for example we can use paper charts, manual blood pressures, manual counts of someone pulse and weigh folks without a digital scale. Spinning blood down at a high speed without the use of a centrifuge would be hard to separate the blood as we cannot spin it in hand fast enough to separate it.

The use of EMR’s makes our lives easier by allowing us to be able to send prescriptions electronically, creating lab slips, legible progress notes, see lab results the next day, seeing all of the previous encounters, send messages for doctor to doctor or doctor to an MA or whoever I the office, allows you to attach other doctors to the get the results of a patients labs that are being drawn. Technology also allows us to fax things from one office to another, make copies and print out papers for the patient to have hard copies of. Technology gives us the ability to see what is going on inside the body as well with the use of CT scans, PET scans, MRI’s, sonograms and ultrasounds.
