This is to be able to examine the different developments and how it had affected the school in terms of economical development of the school and the cultural development of the faculty and students that had taught and studied there, respectively.
The history of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong can be learned with historiographical theories such as oral tradition, anthropology, deconstructionist, and material conditions of a culture as the root of its development. There are six stages of main development that has happened in Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, namely: The beginning, in the year 1959-1960, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong starts its first batch with a hundred students. Second, the late 60s stage, which its contributions to history creates a rise in facilities, such as the St. Francis Church, a new high school building, canteen, air conditioned library, a swimming pool, and a 521 seat auditorium. Third, is the 80’s development, wherein there was shower and dressing rooms that were installed, a canteen extension, and a covered walk that leads to the swimming pool. Fourth, is the 2007 installation, where the tennis court was converted into another gymnasium, and the high school building was extended. Fifth, is the 2010 version, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong receives PAASCU Accreditation Level II, causing an outburst of students to suddenly enlist in the university coming from the Ateneo High School and La Salle Greenhills. The most recent one, is the 2016 edition, where in K-12 is integrated into the curriculum of the school, purchasing more school assets and upgrading the facilities. All of these phases of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong are important due to the facts that are aligned with these stages, facts such as how the economical developments and how the culture of the people are at that time.
There are a lot of resources that are to be included into the research paper. The primary sources are to be coming from Lourdes School of Mandaluyong produced materials, such as their yearbooks to find out the students reflections and feedbacks of those times and the mini-historical museum full they had set up in to remember the memory of their past. Another primary source will be used in this research an interview with a Marian Capuchin-Franciscan Minister and a teacher, namely: Sir. Jeffrey Ordinal and Sir. Peter Garcia. Secondary sources that will be used will be, from the official website of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, which had been moderated by the administrative staff of the school. Other secondary sources that will be including journals and newspaper articles that have been published by the school as well. All of these sources will be used in order to have accurate information in writing the research paper.
The reading, “White Buffalo Woman” by Henrietta Whiteman, it emphasizes on oral history. Oral history is an important method of recording history in ancient times especially during the time where writing was not allowed to be taught to the common man. As stated in the reading, “White Buffalo Woman, my great-grandmother, was taught through oral tradition, just as her mother and grandmothers had been taught” Even until now, it is a method of sharing one’s history that are used by tribesmen in order to continue their history. Even for the people that have technological advances, some still choose to use this method, such as some members of the Marian Capuchin-Franciscan ministers. The oral tradition of passing down history continues and will continue, in regards to this research paper, via the interviews a Marian Capuchin-Franciscan minister will administer for the researcher. In a way, the researcher become part of the, so-called “Historian-elders” that will continue to pass the down the information. In terms of being able to do same, the research would be able to pass down information as well, but it would be done in the form of this research paper.
The next methodological theory that can be used in this research paper is Anthropology, from the reading “Anthropology and Ethnohistorians,” Green and Troup. Anthropology is the science of humanity or according to Green and Troupe, it includes a close observation of living processes of social interaction, interesting methods of deciphering symbolic behavior, figuring out how different parts of a social system are able to gel together, and going through material from cultures very different from those which historians are used to studying. This is useful in this research paper because it includes how the culture of the students and of faculty members would be from the start of the university until the recent times, whether the earliest account of the culture in the students and the faculty would be retained even until the recent development and the K-12 program. There are a lot of things that should be double checked as well, as generalizing problems and certain quirks will reduce the accuracy that the research paper would be able to produce. Knowing whether or not the actions of the students and the faculty reaped from the yearbooks would be accurate or not, the researcher would attempt to do his best to find sources that would boast the most accurate results.
The deconstructionist method, coming from the reading belonging to “The challenge of Poststructuralism/Postmodernism,” is written by Green and Troup. It is in the reading that facts cannot be dependent on history because the interpretation changes over time. It is also possible to get “lost in translation” and the definitions would be understood in a wrong way; also, it is possible due to several layers of meaning that could be discovered, the words itself could be either hitting the proper definition or horribly misunderstood. The text has also been read, but unfortunately interpreted by readers differently as words would almost always have different meanings, but the same pronunciation and spelling or the same spelling, different pronunciation and meanings; in other words, the words have the capability to be something so hard to comprehend. This is usable in the research paper, because there are items such as pictures that could be misleading - especially since some people might have forced expressions upon faces. It also usable in order to get the confident answers.
Lastly, is the material conditions of a culture as the root of its development coming from Gordon Childe’s “What Happened in History. ” Materials are important in the sense that, materials are needed in order to create buildings and facilities. This is usable in this research paper because a school needs to expand in order to develop its buildings and facilities; creating more benefits for the students enrolled to stay enrolled and for other students to transfer in. This would also be part of economical development, as the facilities of each time period would affect the school.
