The Emancipation Proclamation Ended Slavery And War

In the United States slavery was practiced since the beginning of the colonial era, during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. A large part of the slaves was owned by the plantation owners. The work of slaves was an important factor in the accumulation of wealth in the United States, since they worked hard without any rest, did not enjoy any civil rights, had no freedom to express themselves, were humiliated, mistreated and discriminated against. sold as a worthless object, they could not marry or form their own family. Many of the slaves tried to flee to the north to escape the punishment they lived daily, but it was very difficult for them to leave that bloody and humiliating world since their owners chased them until they got them back. In 1860 a slave was worth 2000 dollars, this was a product of the constant increase in demand that was at that time, which made the value multiply so much. The economy grew more and more thanks to the tobacco and cotton plantations sustained by the effort of the slaves. Between 1835 and 1860 the North and the south collided, as the north opposed the southern slave system, while the south defended their interests and profits. Anti-slavery republicans got Abraham Lincoln to become president in 1860, and in 1863 Lincoln approved the Emancipation Proclamation, thanks to this all slaves would be free. Slavery would end with war.

The Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States officially abolished and continues to prohibit slavery in the United States of America. Slavery remained legal in Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland and New Jersey. In the rest of the country slaves had been released by state action and the Emancipation Proclamation of the federal government. Abraham Lincoln was afraid that the Emancipation Proclamation would be seen as a temporary measure during the American civil war, and thanks to this they supported the Amendment as a means of guaranteeing the radical abolition of slavery on a constant basis. The Amendment had as its main objective that forced labor would never exist again, proposed that never there would be more slavery, only as punishment if someone committed a crime, they would use it as a form of teaching. As a second objective, Congress had the privilege of enforcing this article through laws. It was of great importance to establish and put into practice Amendment thirteen, in order to form a perfect union in which there was justice, a town in which everyone had the same rights without distinction of race, sex or sexual preference, a town in which you would be seen for your merits, sacrifices and achievements achieved day by day, a puberty free of abuse and with internal tranquility.

The Thirteenth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was proposed to the legislatures of several states, and it was adopted on December 6, 1865. Before the Civil War broke out, the projects approved by Congress would protect slavery in that at the time. Many offers were submitted for the abolition of slavery. Senator Henderson presented a joint offer to abolish slavery, but the Senate Judiciary Committee presented an offer of Amendment which combined the proposals of Henderson, Wilson and Ashley. This joint proposal, the Senate approved the Amendment on April 8, 1864 with 38 votes, and the House of Representatives after opposing it approved with 119 votes. The thirteenth Amendment completed the legislation so that slavery would finally end. Thanks to this Amendment 40,000 slaves residing in Kentucky were released.

One of the significant cases in which Amendment Thirteen was involved was the case of the United States v Kozminski in 1988. A case of the United States Supreme Court. Kozminski and his son were accused of having enslaved two men on their farms, working involuntarily for them. These two men had mental retardation and were found in poor health, in unfavorable conditions and completely isolated from the rest of society. Working seven days a week, 17 hours a day without any payment or rest on the other hand, they were physically mistreated and under threat but did not comply with what they were ordered. After having been working for more than ten years, a local pastor noticed the physical condition of these men and denounced him to the authorities. I condemn the husband and wife for keeping those men against their will and the son of this marriage was convicted of conspiracy. This case was appealed to the supreme court, and the defendants accepted their mistakes in court by violating the thirteenth Amendment by having involuntarily retained servitude. All three were sentenced, but before the United States government had to prove that the two men were mentally incompetent. Slavery had already been abolished, they had no right to retain or enslave people who should be free and more with those conditions they had.
