The Need Of Global Corporations To Aid Less Developed Countries With Crucial Issues
It’s possible that due to Djibouti’s being a small size country, it does not receive as much attention as it needs when it comes to media coverage regarding existing catastrophe within the Horns of Africa and the country itself. Djibouti has been dealing with many noteworthy issues. For the past fourth successive years the lack of rain has left an immense loss of livestock, the annihilation of produces and the upsurge of malnourishment. The lack of rain has affected a large number of the population within the country about one eight of the population. As stated by the UN, farmers have reported losing close to 80% of their livestock. However, the cost of food keeps increasing by more than 50%. Due to the lack of rain a lot of farmers have lost their source of income merged with the continuous increase on goods has led to citizens to have to choose to use their income for food at the expense of their schooling but most importantly their health.
The UN drought appeal for Djibouti has raised $17. 4m of a total of $33. 3m needed, leaving a shortfall of $15. 9m. With funding running at 52% of met needs, Djibouti actually comes second only to Kenya (54%). Ethiopia, with unmet funding needs of 62. 4%, is the country that badly needs more international aid.
Global corporations or international especially those within the transportation industries constantly having to use the ports to Djibouti should take donations as far as food, medicine, clothing and much more from developed location and deliver them to the country free of charge, depending how many deliveries of goods they manage to get to Djibouti of necessaries they should get a tax cut or maybe a free barge delivery. For example, for a vessel that may berth in Houston, Texas with their next port of call being Djibouti in order for the “company” or “Captain” to avoid paying the loading barge they must take goods such as the one mentioned to the less developed country and once deliver they must create an invoice which was received and what are the most crucial goods required in order to advise that next person making delivery.
In addition, I would suggest that insurance companies should be demanded to help aid less developed countries with crucial issues. For example, if Horizon Blue Cross has 15% of their customers not use the insurance to their full potential for the year, whatever average let’s say $80, 000 dollars went un-use they should donate the money in goods to countries such as Djibouti to ensure they have clean water, education and a meal to eat.
Based on all the information research, I would continue to do as I have to helped those less fortunate than me. By donating food, clothing and anything necessary to family member to the local fire department. I would also suggest for huge companies to donate to the needy when a celebrity baby is born instead of that celebrity. For example, instead of McDonalds, giving X- celebrity free meals for a year. They should donate that money to X- country in honor of X- celebrity becoming a mother.
