The Racial Implications Of President Trump & Administration

Policy #1: Domestic Terrorism

Why does the KLAN wear hoods? “Because when they are done they go back to being your doctors, your governors, lawyers, your police officers, teachers, senators, judges, and your coworkers.” Domestic terrorism is a topic that I find ignored and down played, but in reality, it is present in our everyday lives. I selected this issue because the only group that people talk about is the Ku Klux Klan when (as said in the quote) they are disguised in professional uniform. What about the teachers that leave out the important parts of slavery, Juneteenth, or the true meaning of these American holiday that African Americans love so much? The U.S. Code of Federal Regulations defines terrorism as "the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives".

Policy #2: Education

In my opinion, a school system can make or break an individual. Education is a very sensitive topic for me. I attended a predominately white institution from grades k-12 and I can honestly say the school system ruined a part of me. Not limiting the issues to racism, the content of the curriculums was very brainwashing. I left Anne Arundel County public schools scared of my own race. I thought that African Americans were violent and ghetto, I didn’t even think about a Historically Black College or Institution before my family insisted I go. I also was not taught any African American history while attending these public schools. Clark Atlanta University was an absolute culture shock as well as the city of Atlanta. In addition to my personal experience as an adolescent, I also discovered that the demographic of a school is not related to the content taught. Meaning that those who believe that a Caucasian teacher versus an African American teacher is more efficient is incorrect. A child that is placed inside of a black school will receive help with all aspects of life, academically and personally. I am firm believer in the saying “it takes a village” because honestly it does. The education a child receives will impact their future. If a child grows up in ignorance, they will only live through ignorance. Teachers have the power to change a child’s life in the most positive sense, but that is not always the case. Our school systems produce all levels from chefs and police officers to chemical engineers and lawyers. As far as funding is concerned. Government funding puts people in debt and sometimes keeps them there for years until able to be paid off. Now if African Americans continue to attend colleges and succeed, I believe that Trump will remove government funding for schools, especially at HBCU’s.

“Education is not just about going to school and getting a degree. It's about widening your knowledge and absorbing the truth about life.” Shakuntala Devi

Policy #3: Jobs (Creation and Minimum Wages)

I decided to talk about this issue because as I transform into an adult, wage has become important to me. A perfect example is my current situation: being a Maryland resident and going to college in Georgia. Minimum wage up North seems as if it is constantly increasing, but it is a known fact that minimum wage in the South is much less than the wakes in the North. Minimum wage in Georgia is only $7.25, which is ridiculous to me. I am a Senior in college, with a car, and on campus apartment. Leaving out the basic needs, the amount of money offered to a part-time sales associate that is paid bi-weekly is a barely enough to get me through the period that is between each paycheck.
