The Road To Becoming A World Class Barber

“Beginning with the ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome, and Egypt, barber shops have historically been a place where men have gathered for not only a haircut, but often for friendly talk about local happenings, politics, news, weather, sporting events, and anything else under the sun”(Hudson’s Guide). They have to know the hair their cutting. Sometimes the customer will be very easy to satisfy or quite annoying and hard to satisfy. Barbers have to be friendly to or else they won’t get any customers. “Barber talk” is when barbers just shoot the breeze with their customers, ask them how their day was and what is going on in their live, I guarantee that the customer will pay double or be back for more. The number one rule is the customer is always right. If they say that they want to cut off all their hair barbers do it to the best of their abilities with a smile on their face and they will come back for more.

Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not caring about what someone else has to say. Barbers need to get their own style, and swag when it comes to cutting hair. Every barber has to have different way of cutting hair. Some have quick, sloppy ways of cutting hair. Others stay clean and cut corners tight to make a razor sharp edge. However there is always a downside to anything. Cutting fast is quick but barbers make mistakes and the cut isn’t as clean as it should be. Going slow and taking time is good because the haircut is very nice but believe it or not a slow haircut could take up to 45 minutes to an hour! They just have to learn to find middle ground and put a spin on it. Nobody wants a simple and plain haircut with no special behind it. People like to know the fact that the barber is good at what they do. . That’s why style is very important.

A tool knows exactly how it is meant to be handled, while the user of the tool can only have an approximate idea”(Tool Quotes). A barber’s most important thing is their clippers. Without clippers they cannot cut hair, shape it up or anything. Some keep the clippers they have been using for years others buy new clippers every year. The newer the clippers the better the cut, no matter what one says. Because the sharper the blades the better the cut. Another thing is barbers want to be remembered as professional, so the must keep your blades clean. In fact will not even be able to obtain a barber license without a certain certificate that says that we have passed a clean cut test. It’s a test that makes sure barbers know the cleanness with the tools they are handling. The last thing a barber wants is to cut a customer’s hair and then two hours later they come back complaining about how their hair itches and hurts because they didn't clean the clippers properly. Being a clean barber is just as important as being a good barber, barbers remember that.

A world renowned barber’s has to have great people skills. One has to always smile, have a good sense of humor and be an all around nice guy. While someone’s getting their haircut they cannot or check their phone so they need something to do. That’s where barbers come in. Chatting it up and asking about how the kids are doing and what is going on big in their lives. “ The less they speak, the more you will hear”(positivityblog). It is so rude to cut a customer off in the middle of sentence so it is always better to just stand their cut and when you feel like it is a good time to put input they’ll do it. The customer will always be appreciative of someone that listens. They must always keep a smile and stay friendly and they will be regular customers.
