The Urgent Issue Of Global Chemical Pollution

Pollution due to chemicals has increased immensely over the past few decades and this agenda has been discussed on various platforms like the United Nations. Despite various measures and global understanding, the pollution levels have failed to stop growing.

One of the primary causes of pollution globally is because of direct disposal of harmful chemicals to the environment. When chemicals are released into our environment and disrupts the balance of our ecosystems, threatening our health, polluting the air we breathe and contaminating our food. Many chemicals in the form of liquid, solid and gas are released to the environment everyday by various industries and domestic homes. Vehicles also contribute to chemical pollution. Most the substances released, may not be harmful but the smallest fraction of undesirable chemicals can take a huge toll on the environment.

On an understandable note, preventing chemicals from being disposed to the environment has become an impossible task due to the exponential increase in population, industries and vehicles. But the main aim of the UN today, is to stabilise, treat and reduce the harmful substances before releasing it. This agenda has been agreed upon by almost every country across the globe and measures have been taken by each one of them to reduce their gross pollution. Kanpur in India which has a very high percentage of pollution level in the atmosphere has established many organisations, NGO’s, committees with the primary aim to bring down their level of pollution. Pollution, especially due to chemicals can be incredibly harmful. Talking about the scale, the atmosphere and the environment are affected primarily. Wildlife (including all animals and plants) are the ones who get affected secondary. Due to this, Man become prey to pollution. Accumulation of these harmful chemicals within an individual can be a serious problem and our bodies starts to degrade slowly.

Overall the pollution caused by industrialisation, is not only killing us but the wildlife and the atmosphere around us. We are already at our peak and reducing and preventing pollution must become a duty to each and every citizen regardless of the nation they come from. Governments must issue a strict policy of 0 emission to industries they house. 0 emission vehicles like the Tesla Motors, which harness the electrical energy needs to be widened. This can only be done by bringing down the cost by government help and spreading awareness on the benefits of such an investment. The levels of chemical pollution have to fall down on a global scale for a sustainable future.
