The US History of the Evolution of Drug and Drug Abuse

In this thematic essay the chosen topics for discovering the US history is - the history of drugs and drugs abuse. Drug is the thing that everyone afraid of, but why do some people still want to try it. Everybody knows somebody who has used or uses drugs, even the best friends and family members. Since drugs are everywhere, some people also do not know how to protect themselves. While drugs affect everyone around them, some of the effects that drugs have on a user include withdrawing from loved ones, the cult of celebrity and entertainment industry.

First of all, a drug user usually becomes antisocial, trying to keep away from others, like friends and family. After using drugs over time, they tend to flee some public situations and activities. If a teen is experimenting drugs while in school, he or she may never join some extracurricular club activities such as clubs and sports, or even give up the academic study. It will directly affect their future development. This type of person will quickly stuck in their drugs that eventually just focus on themselves. According to the report from the Purdue University, “seventy percent of people who are using drugs would be more likely to run away from home”. Although those addicts might not care about the distance widening between them and their boyfriend, mom, or their best friend, their loved one's do care about it and sometimes feel hurt.

Not only leave away from the close relatives, but also the entertainment industry is another key contributor to increased drug abuse among young people in current society. Most young people are crazy fans of movies and popular celebrities. The most modern films will have scenes or plots where main characters are using drugs, who live high qualities lives. For example, the American movie “Breaking Bad” described an ordinary teacher using his extraordinary chemical knowledge to manufacture drugs and become the top drug king in the whole world. The movies and shows display some of the features of life that young people most admire such actors as being endowed; that is wealth, money, and other life desires. Young people also try to mimic these lifestyles with the belief that they are experiencing the same life with those of their movie celebrities, but this never comes to reality. In order to copy their celebrities, young people end up participating in drug and substance abuse.

Although it contains the effects on the celebrities, increased unemployment among the youths depends on their habit of substance abuse. The number of unemployed youths is still increasing as times goes on in many countries. According to the source from U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “the US unemployment rate increased to 3.6 percent in October 2019 from 3.5 percent in the previous month and in line with market expectations. In August, the number of unemployed persons increased by 86,000”. State governments have failed to address this problem, which cause many young people to reduced living standards. Most of these youths eat the bread of idleness all days after finishing the college study. They always work with expectations of society, which is really a big hurt to them. Most of them lose hope and let themselves be a loser. To deal with those kinds of stresses and depression, most of them turn to drug and substance abuse to find the thrill of the moment.

In the conclusion, drugs produce a lot of negative effects on the society. Drugs abuse is based on the entrainment field, the influences from celebrity and will cause people’s personality, which is to be antisocial. The danger from drugs is too great to ignore.
