Understanding The True Value Of Life

St. Lawrence“The Gift”

As a student, do you absolutely know the value of life? Do you really know your value in this material world? Do you know why you were born? Do you know your purpose? “Maybe it is better if I never existed”. Have these words ever crossed your mind at least once in your life? Thinking that it is better if you did not exist because you are very tired and stressed about your current problems in life? There are so many deadlines that you have to meet, that you do not even know where to start. And then there are those nights when all you want to do is to flop on your bed and sleep but you cannot because you still have so much to do. And when all is done, they tell you that it is not good enough. Makes you want to rip your hair out, don’t you? This is a familiar story for many of us, so let's discuss these questions in more detail in the "Understanding The True Value Of Life Essay" paper.

Nonetheless, if there are negatives in life, of course there will be positive ones. But how can you overcome your negatives with your positives if you yourself have already given up? You must value your life! For it is a precious gift from God. You have a purpose in life. You have a role to play in this society. Life is a privilege denied to many. According to William Barclay, "there are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why." Life is given to us by God himself as man’s most priceless possession. In the Bible in Psalm 139:14 (New International Version), it says that “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” It means that God really gave us the gift of life.

So why would you waste such an amazing opportunity to see the beautiful creations of God? To experience what life has to offer you? According to the Bible in Genesis 1:27 (New International Version), it says that “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” You must be thankful because you were born a human being in the likeness of God rather than a mere animal or an insect. You were gifted with the ability to think. You were gifted with the ability to feel and experience this world God made for us. You have been given wisdom and free will to choose what you want to do with your life.

What more can you ask for? According to Voltaire, “God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.” Since God gave us the gift of life, it is up to you yourself so that you can live well in this world. You will not move forward if you just kept praying, God will only guide you to the right way, you must do the work yourself. Hard work and effort will pay off in the end.You have a purpose in life. You have a role to fulfill. God created us with a plan in mind. According in the Bible in Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version), “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Do not worry if you are lost today, we all have our own pace to grow and be successful in life. God has that ultimate plan for you. Sure there are problems, hurdles, and obstacles ahead to overcome in life but that is because they are a part of life. People always say that life is unfair, but that is exactly why life is fair. Life is fair because everyone experiences hardship from time to time. Some of them even experience them simultaneously. These problems, hurdles, and obstacles that are in the way are what will make you a better person by tomorrow. For example, as a student you will experience a lot of problems regarding about time and numbers. It is always the deadlines that are the deadliest. These deadlines will tire you out mentally and physically. Performance tasks, projects, then the passing of each is like all in one week. You worry about your deadlines because you worry about your grades. It is just very exhausting. But do not let this discourage you. Everything is a blessing be it a negative one or a positive one.

According to A. R. Rahman, “I believe that whatever comes at a particular time is a blessing from God.” God planned everything from the start. He planned everything right before you were born. He planned everything because he has a role specified just for you. Even every person you meet is not by accident. People meet because it is in God’s plan. There is a cause why you meet a new person in life, and there are a lot of possibilities why. For example, maybe you meet someone new because God believed that by meeting this particular person, you will change your view in the community around you. Or maybe God will let you meet this very straightforward type of guy just to change your boastfulness. The possibilities are endless. Everything was already planned out by our Maker.

There is a bright future waiting for you, just take your time and enjoy the present.Life is a privilege denied to many. Not everyone has the opportunity to live a very long life. Many people have sickness or are already in their death beds. And they wish that they still have more time in this world. They may still have things that they have not yet done. Or that they have someone they needed to talk to. For parents, they are not ready to leave their children just yet. They want to see them grow and see the man or woman they will become. They want to experience the joys of being a grandparent. While many want to borrow more time, there are those that have never experience what it is like to live, or even breathe. Aborted babies are deprived of that.

They were denied the chance to live. They will never know this world and all the problems that come with living. They will also never know the joys of living. Others have a disability, whether they have vision impairment, deaf or hard of hearing, mental health conditions, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, autism spectrum disorder, or a physical disability, they are still fighting. They did not let their disability get in the way of life. One inspiring example is Marla Runyan. Marla Runyan remarked that she is a legally blind marathon runner and she became a three time national champion in the women’s 5000 meters.

In 1992 summer Olympics, she won four gold medals and in 2000 she became the first legally blind Paralympian to compete in the Olympic Games in Sydney. She did not let her blindness be a hindrance to her career. Because she believed in herself, she made it in the history books. She made a difference. She became an inspiration to a lot of people. She did not waste her life, and so you should too. Another inspiring example is Helen Keller. Helen Keller mentioned that she was an American prolific author, political activist and lecturer who was the first deaf, mute and blind person honored with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was born as a normal child but at the age of 19 months, she got a brain fever, leaving her completely deaf and blind. Her teacher was her motivation. She helped Keller to communicate by spelling words in her hand. She campaigned for women’s suffrage, civil liberties, and communism, as well as many other noble causes. These people are incredible because they achieved success despite their physical limitations.

It takes courage and a strong will to be able to do that. These two people are a great inspiration to everyone. They proved that nothing is impossible when you have the willpower to do it. We ourselves should follow their example. When we want to be successful we should exert effort and have the will to do whatever it takes to accomplish our goal. Life is too wonderful to waste. It offers a lot of opportunities, new experiences, and endless possibilities. God gave us a present and that is life. Its worth is priceless and immeasurable. God gave you a role to play in life. Everybody has one, it is our job to find out what it is and fulfill it well. Life is too short, and even shorter for other people. It means that you should enjoy it now with the people you care about because not everybody can have the opportunity to live a long life. Do not take life too seriously. Just take a deep breath, chill, relax and enjoy every second of it.
