Things I Do To Reduce My Carbon Footprint
For living
I spend the most on electricity bills. My home often turns on the air-conditioner in summer from afternoon until evening, and also always turn on the lights even in the morning which these cost high electricity bills and also caused the increase of CO2. Thus, in terms of energy saving, I will try to use a fan or mini fan (a fan which is mini, but with strong power of wind and can be held on hand) to replace the air-conditioner. And also clean the air conditioning dust screen regularly in order to maintain better-operating efficiency.
For travel
Replacing private cars with public transport can reduce carbon emissions and alleviate traffic congestion. And also many buses have different routes which are so convenient. So I like to and always use MTR and bus. Apart from this, I can also use a bicycle to go to a place nearby. Bicycle Will does not emit greenhouse gases or waste gas, nor cause any noises. And there are lots of shared bike everywhere and it quite cheap. Therefore, using a bicycle is also a good way to reduce my carbon footprint.
For food
Sometimes I ordered too much food and at last, I can't finish it all which is wasting food. In order to reduce the waste of food, I should first consider the hunger and whether can I finish it all before ordering. And I always found that a lot of food on the table is about to expire or has expired. What is wasted is not only the food but also the waste of the production, packaging, transportation etc. which is increasing the emission of CO2. Thus, I should check the expired date before I buy and also don’t buy too much at once. And also check the food on the table whether is expired or not and eat it if is about to expired.
For clothing
When it is time to tidy up my wardrobe like in New Year, I always find out some clothes that I never wear it. So in order to reduce the carbon emission of this category, I will consider the necessity of the clothes before I buy it. And because of Fast fashion, the material those manufactory use may harm the environment. So I will try to choose clothes that can be recycled and have low environmental damage, such as clothes made of natural materials like cotton. And I also can exchange used clothing on Hong Kong Secondhand Exchange or donate old clothes to the Clothes Recycling, people in need or social welfare organizations and environmental groups.
