Turia Pitt – The Most Inspirational Australian Hero
Turia Pitt is the most heroic human on planet earth. Why? Because she has done the impossible! She has gone through thousands of struggles and still manages to be the most inspirational Australian Hero. She contributes to society in many ways including having Confidence, Bravery and Determination. Hence why she should be nominated for the Australian of the Year award.
Turia has had a tough life, she used to be a model but soon overtook the job of an engineer. Her life was changed in the year of 2011. She was competing in the ultramarathon run in Kimberly as she got trapped in an out-of-control fire. 60% of her body was severely burnt due to this. Helicopters and ambulances came rushing as they took her to the nearest hospital. She lost 7 of her fingers and had to stay in hospital for over 6 months. Turia went through more than 300 surgeries and lived through it all. "She is living proof that, with the right mindset, we truly can achieve anything".
Firstly, a hero doesn't look at the face or body but at the heart. There are few people in this world that don't judge people by their appearance. Turia Pitt has many traits that make her a hero. Her story is not the only subject people get inspired by but the fact that she is confident no matter what her appearance is. Turia was super confident before the fire. She had many friends, a perfect boyfriend and an amazing appearance. Soon the people she thought loved her most slowly drifted away. Her boyfriend still looked at her the same but life would never go back to the way it was. "Instead of spending my weekends rock climbing in gorges with Michael, I was spending my weeks at rehab centres and was constantly in and out of operating theatres”. Her confidence slowly started building back up again with the help and support of her family and fans. “All of these ‘little things’ came together and slowly; my confidence grew and grew. She soon realised that beauty doesn’t come from your appearance but from your heart. In this case, Turia is a true hero as she helps others through her inspiring story hence why she won the Woman of the Year award in 2014.
Secondly, Turia Pitt has many traits in which make her a true Australian hero. She has been a huge help towards her community but she has also overcome many of her personal goals. She couldn't have reached any of her life long goals without her brave heart. It is said by doctors from all around the world that the maximum amount of surgeries done on a human is 9.5. Whereas Turia has had over 300. There are also many risks when it comes to operations such as medical complications, blood clots, organ disruption and the like. Turia Pitt is often referred to as a superhero. It is common sense that super man and the hulk don’t exist. The fact that they are indestructible is unrealistic whereas Turia is not far off being indestructible. She has gone through may tough stages throughout her life and she was determined to risk it all to live the rest of her life. One of her most inspiring quotes is "Some people that to be strong is to never feel pain. In reality, the strongest people are the ones who feel it, understand it, and accept it".
Lastly, a true Australian hero should believe in themselves and should be determined. Turia Pitt has many goals she dreams to fulfil. Her mind is set on being an inspirational athlete. Turia has won many awards in which she has been aiming towards for many years including the ' NSW woman of the year award' as well as having the achievement of being a finalist for 'Telstra New South Wales Business Women's awards'. Through it all Turia is still running marathons and being more inspirational than ever. Her determined attitude is a trait in which many young Australians look up to. She has gone through many difficulties throughout her years but manages to live her life with a positive attitude.
