What Is Cultural Competence And Why Is This Important As An Aged Care Worker

What is cultural competence and why is this important as an aged care worker?Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual. Or Relating to the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a society. We all belong to one or more cultures, even if we don't realize it. These cultures are formed through shared languages, traditions, values, and belief systems, among other things. For instance, in the Australia, the majority of the population shares a language (English), history, and certain values like freedom and liberty. Our participation in a shared culture helps us to bond as a society and understand each other. This understanding facilitates cooperation and easy communication in social, educational, and economic environments.

I belongs to Pakistan. It is situated in a part of the world that was previously home to ancient Indus valley civilisation. Islam is the state religion of Pakistan, and about 95% of Pakistanis are Muslim. I am female, married I have one son who is three years old. In my Pakistani culture and there is no concept of homosexuality by law. I really don't have issues if people have other preferences but for myself a proper family life (mum, dad and son )is more attractive. In Pakistan I was living with my dad and I am lucky enough to be raised in an educated, upper-middle class family.

Cross-cultural misunderstandings or conflict may arise whenever there are cultural differences. Few of the potential causes or situations in which conflicts or misunderstandings can happen are misunderstandings or conflict between different nationalities, religious or ethnic groups ,cultural ignorance and insensitivity, lack of awareness of different societal lifestyle practices, differences in cultural practice, in perception of illness and treatment and miscommunication and misinterpretation. For example in Pakistan or in Muslim world people eat beef and there is holy festival in which they slaughter goat or cow once a year. But in India the cow is to be a sacred symbol of life that should be protected and revered. I belong to Muslim religion so I practice fasting, holy celebrations and till the day now even in Australia we celebrate Pakistan day on 14th of August with our community.

Pakistan came into existence to provide its people with a way of life-based on Islam. The people, customs and traditions commonly follow the one religion. Islam is practised by almost all Pakistanis. people of Pakistan are helpful, friendly, approachable and humble. Diverse culture has exposed Pakistani musicians to many different poetic forms and styles, along with languages and literature. Family comes first in Pakistan due to religious, cultural, economic and societal values. Pakistani society is not led by individualism, but rather by collectivism, where family and other relationships stand strongly in each other’s support. Pakistani truck art is not the only world-famous example of craftsmanship. Calligraphy in Arabic is one of the most prominent skills found in many local buildings. Chai (Tea) is everywhere in Pakistan, probably in a similar sense to how beer is in alcohol consuming countries. Guests, tourists and visitors, whether domestic or international, are always welcomed with open arms. Pakistani men are very hardworking. I don't agree with religious extremism (still we have few people with that view) , corruption (both moral and political) aspects of Pakistani culture.

I like Pakistani culture as I am born with it other than that I like Norwegian culture history and geography of Norway is way more beautiful. I like Japanese culture, my sister shared her experience of living Tokyo and how punctual organized it is .the cherry blossom tree in Japanese culture called sakura is beautiful.I know not much about Chinese culture but they are neighbour and a good friend of Pakistan as we have neighbour many political contracts which are good for both countries. Indian cultural is very diverse and i know little bit about it i come to know more about Indian culture through my Indian friends.
