Whether Diamond Mining Harmful to the Environment
There are many positive sides of diamond mining, however, there are plenty of negative outcomes for the environment and so for humanity too. Here we will discuss whether diamond mining harmful to the environment, essay answers provide argumentative information both about cons and pros of diamond mining.
Kimberlite is the rock of which diamonds are found. This rock is usually found at least 15 meters deep into the ground. The fresh material removed from the mining site is taken to a special screening plant for more, new processing. The diamond is removed from the kimberlite rock. The miners mine into and past the earth's crust to the kimberlite pipe. Diamonds have many uses. Some are ones that we use in our day to day activities, and sometimes it is used for other minerals. For example, jewelry like rings and necklaces. Diamonds are also used for tools, and used in other minerals for its hardness.
Working in a diamond mine can offer many jobs. The first one is a ground control engineer, during this job, the worker has to do frequent checks of the workplace conditions and follow with the laws regulations and work procedures. The next job in the mining industry is assistant chief geologist, in the job the worker has to work with the chief geologist when planning and when managing tasks/activities that are connected to geology. The third job in the diamond industry is a welder, during this job, the worker must make sure that the workplace is safe by following the health and safety rules 24/7. The Canadian diamond industries make a lot of money each year. This industry makes over 100 million dollars for Canada every year. Since mining started in Canada, more than 10 billion dollars have been put into designing and running the four diamond mines.
Although diamond industries come with many positive sides, but also many negative sides. One of the main negatives are environmental issues. A big one is pollution such as water or air pollution. This is very damaging to our planet, especially for the homes of which live near the industry. The second one is health issues for anyone living near/around the mines. There can be chemical spills or leaks. This causes it to be unsafe for the citizens.
Diamond mining industries also have laws. Some examples are that permits and licences are needed at every step of the mining cycle. Each province also has also has exclusive power over the mineral investigations, development, etc. in and around it’s land. Those are only some of the many laws and regulations diamond mining industries have.
To conclude, I believe that there should be increased laws for the diamond mining industries in Canada because their are so many damages done to our environment when it comes to mining, and yes there are already some laws in place, but I don’t believe that they are strong enough to reduce the pollution and damages that are being created. I also believe that there should be more laws because we should have chemicals leaking into waterways, especially when there are citizens living there.
