The Goals For The Development Of The World We Make

The world we make now is a society where technological development enhances the convenience of life. Technological innovation has achieved technological development and miniaturization. In addition, globalization has been achieved in a large part. However, there are many global problems or issues such as poverty, climate change, human rights, gender equality and so on that accompany this rapid development.

So, I would like to compare a world to a high-speed train that runs along a wrong track. A High-Speed train can reach the destination very fast. But the problem is that the train can only go through the track. During the train runs, you can’t change the direction to go. It means you can only get off at the destination even if you get on a wrong train. As this train, I think the world is moving toward a destination where other things can be ignored for technological development, not for technological development that does not harm others.

It is understandable that most people want our world to become a utopia that everyone lives happily. The world that a boy’s dream cannot be determined by his parents or a place he was born. And this utopia can’t be made by technological development or richness and stuff like that. I compared the world to a train above, but of course the train can get back to its destination after it’s done but the world is not. If our world starts to be destroyed and the degree of destruction is too high to handle with our technology, there is no turning back. For this reason, we must strive for sustainable development in the long run for a utopian world.

It is true that the utopian world is too ideal and far from our current address. But it doesn’t mean we can’t solve poverty, achieve gender equality, and improve environmental problems in next 10 years. According to Michael Green’s TED Talk in 2015, the leaders of the world agreed a new set of Global Goals for the development of the world to 2030, and he said we maybe actually can achieve those 17 global goals. Also, there is a ‘Social Progress Index’ that can be a benchmark that how much we’ve done those global goals. If add up all countries together then the global score is 61 points out of 100, and Green estimates the score will be 75 points in next 15 years.

By the way, he says we can’t get to that points only if we focus on economic growth such as GDP. Instead he says we can achieve more social development by prioritizing the welfare of citizens while he gives examples of Costa Rica and New Zealand. From this point, we can realize that we need to lead the world with the aim of improving welfare around the world to make our world ideal in the end. Also, many people say that to meet new global issues, we have to make new organizations to respond well. I also agree with this because, many current organizations were to be made for respond past issues.

So, first people should understand the concept of a global citizen and should become a global citizen. And as a global citizen, keep concerning about many global issues. Then sometimes you can catch a solution for an issue or you may feel you can do something for solving those problems. Last thing is just do as your thought. If it goes farther and you meet some people have similar ideas then you naturally become an organization. What if you have no abilities to solve problems? It also doesn’t matter if you keep concerning about problems and just shout out those problems must be solved. Every single voice can make others get interested to those problems. Furthermore, if those voices keep coming out then we can make our leaders feel pressure and have the problem addressed at the nation level.
