Why I Want To Be A Registered Nurse

“You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.” – Patch Adams. “A registered nurse is defined as a graduate trained nurse who has been licensed by a state authority after qualifying for registration”. In my opinion, a nurse is a person who able to help others physically and mentally; they have to have great patience and is gentle with others. Being a nurse not only helps the patients, but it helps the nurse, spiritually, as well.

To become a nurse, you have to meet all requirements. With that being said, in all nursing education programs, students take courses such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, and psychology. It requires a bachelor’s degree which will normally take about four years. Also, in all states in the United States, a registered nurse is required to have a nursing license. The students have to graduate from a nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination so that they could get their nursing license. Once you pass the NCLEX-RN, registered nurses may choose to become certified in gerontology, pediatrics, or any other specialized fields. The most common working environment of nurses is usually hospitals, but their environments also include ambulatory healthcare services and nursing and residential care facilities, such as nursing homes.

Registered Nurses have many duties such as assess patients’ conditions, record patients’ medical history and symptoms, observe patients and record their observations, and administer patients’ medicines and treatments. The duties of a nurse have to be one of experiences on becoming a nurse that I will love the most because helping others as a person is like second nature to me. The salary of registered nurses is about $64,690 a year while making about $31.00 an hour. Also, the employment rate of RN’s is projected to grow 15 percent from 2016 to 2026. This is much faster than the average for all occupations. Because of the aging population, the demand for healthcare services will increase. Also, nurses will be highly needed to take care and educate patients that are very sick or severely injured.

There are several reasons why I would love to become a registered nurse. Helping people is a part of my nature. The words “kind” and “nice” play big roles in the qualities of my personality. With that being said, I believe I have great requirements on helping patients mentally. Patients do not only need help physically, but they will need a friend or a shoulder to cry on. Encouraging your patients also plays a big role in nursing. Although nursing requires physical and metal help, but becoming a registered will financially help me in the future. Being able to provide for myself and my family is greatly important to me. I would not want to depend on others for anything. I chose this career to be independent and have everything that I need to survive in everyday life.
