Why Students Should Not Have Homework: No Homework Policy

From the settled and given informations, I will conclude if the implementationof the “No Homework Policy “ is good or not. Is it going to be a burden or a help to add some time for ourselves and for our family?

Books, activities, projects and homework nowadays are the measurement of intelligence of the students. If you’re good in doing projects, you’re active. If you’re bringing a lot of books automatically the see you as a smart student. If youre always joining and participating in activities, you’re a competitive student and if you’re always have your homeworks done, you’re at your best in studying. They are some proof that our world are really going in the modernization stage, as now we are experiencing a modern and hightech version of studying and part of studying is doing homworks. Homeworks that we are used in doing since we are in pre-school. We experienced and even up until now we are seeing every afternoon a child or some children, a group of young people and even those teenagers carrying and lifting a heavy bags eith file cases and carrying some school works to and from school. It is very normal to us and we are very used to it since the first day or time our feet falls or stepped in what we called our second home, our school. And we are also included and can’t deny that at some times we have a violent reactions when our homeworks are given to us. But there are also times that we became excited in answering our homeworks. 

A lot of bills shown and want to be implemented about eliminating homework from kindergarten to senior highschool. The Department of Education, House Deputy Speaker Evelino Escudero and Quezon City Representative Alfred Vargas are those some respected people who are working for this to be implemented. But like other proposals this is also faced in debate if it is really helpful or not. Look at the both sides the positive and negative disadvantages of this proposal. Some advantages if the “No Homework Policy” will be implemented time first is the time. It is very time consuming in doing homework. Some of us can’t deny that doing assignments was very tiring and there are times that we are doing that on the last minute of doing it, it is very rare and we frequently saw students doing their assignments in the library or passing it on time. So, if that becomes a law we are going to have a lot of time doing what we want, for example having a bonding time for our family and friends and also time for ourselves in doing our hobbies and a lot of rest for us. Another one, we are not pressured once we don’t have homeworks, at some time it is the reason why a student commits an absenteeism they are embarrassed if they didn’t finish or they don’t have their assignments with them. One who supported it is the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) in a statement their chairperson Joselyn Martinez said that it will not as they’re not issuing this to be a burden. It is demanded by the K to 12 program so much. Next on why they want this implemented is to promote and protect the physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social life of being included in this generation. Also to lighten up the mood and burden to the school children. It is also important to balance the student’s academic development and personal growth by enjoying and have a limited time for themselves. To lessen the stress brought on by a lot of homeworks to those young students cause at this time and at their young age they saw it as a responsibility. The elimination of this homework will add happiness since they think will not going to base their knowledge on their assignments.

While on the other hand, there are also has a negative effect if homeworks are eliminated. Earlier it was stated that having and doing homeworks is part of being a student and we are already used in doing that. There will be a lot of adjustments for the students. And to think of it, it was only for kindergarten to senior high school, when the student became a college student there will be a lot of homeworks and projects to pass, if the students are not used in doing homeworks they saw that as difficult and they will start complaining again. Another one, No Homework Policy cold and create wrong values among learners, it is also can make our country’s education system more problematic. And for TDC (Teachers Dignity Coalition) they want those who supported this proposal to rethink and reconsider the possible implications on both learners and education system. There are people thinks that banning homework for some non-academic purposes contradict the vision of education. Looking for a deeper side homework also test the discipline of each student and not to make their life miserable.

There are different researchers, opinion, and real life experiences that leads them to have this kind of proposal. Both sides had a point on the said proposal but for me I will disagree in implementing the “No Homework Policy” why? Because for me I didn't see it as a burden and if you're really a responsible student you will know the importance of homework. Homework is made for a purpose and you will not see it difficult if you really desire to have a new learnings and those disadvantages at some ways are right. It only helped us to be a wise student, for us to learn to balance things, on how to prioritize important things rather than doing some non-sense things. Besides, homeworks can also be one of the bongings for a family, tou just need to learn on how to turn negative things into positive one. It can help you to boost your confidence and knowledge in doing that simple things while learning. Be more responsible, be more disciplined if you are tired in doing homeworks do you think if you faced tge college life which is not included in the proposal, would you able to do that easily? Just think the possible future effects on that and analyze the purpose of homework in every students life. That is the reason why I think the implementation of “ No Homework Policy can affect every student’s life.
