Advantages And Drawbacks Of GMO Foods

In the present, there are many kinds of foods, different tastes such as salty food, spicy, sour, oily, bitter and sweet. In food, there are many components, Example fruits, vegetables and meats. Fruit and vegetables have many ways if cultivation each method will have both advantages and disadvantages. Now there are many technologies to offer convenience to humans. Now there is new technologies called GMO foods and it is popular in most group of people. There are variety of kinds of foods made but there’s also many advantages and disadvantages about GMO foods.

GMO foods are foods product from organism that have had changes introduced into their DNA using method of genetic engineering. Genetic modification made in laboratory using genetic engineering. (Stevie Shephard) All of products of genetic engineering were created using the same basic steps, identifying a trait of interest, isolating that genetic trait, inserting that trait into the genome of a desired organism, and then growing he engineered organism.

Corn and Soy are the most heavily genetically modified food in the country. Almost 85% of Corn group in the US is genetically modified so they are resistant to the herbicide glyphosate which is used to kill weeds. The largest US produces of hydride seeds for agriculture created a genetically engineered soy bean, it is meant to have a high level of oleic acid, which is naturally found in olive oil. At present, there are several GM crops used as food sources. As of now there are no GM animals approved for use as food, beta GM salmon has been proposed for FDA approval. In instances, the product is directly consumed as food, but in most of the cares, crops that have been genetically modified are sold as commodities, which are further processed into food ingredient.

People choose GMO foods because it has many advantages, GMO foods have been modified to make them more resistant to insects and others. GM technology is believed to bring about is that crops can be engineered to stand with extreme weather and flections, which means that there will be good quality and sufficient yields even under a poor or severs weather condition, May help with reducing green gas emissions, oil erosion and environmental pollution general health and beauty of the environment that surrounds farms will be improved, some GMO foods have been engineered to become more nutritious in terms of vitamin or mineral content and it has been proven that genetically modified crops do not need pesticides to become stronger against various types of insects or pests that may destroy them. When there are advantages, it has the disadvantages too. GMO foods often adds or mixes proteins that here not indigenous to the original animal or plant, which might cause new allergic reaction in our body though It is claimed by many experts that GMO foods are safe for the environment, they actually still contain several kinds of substances that are not yet proven to be such and what’s worst? These substances are remained hidden to the public in and technology is that some organism in the ecosystem could be harmed, which in turn could lead to a larger level of biodiverse when we remove a certain pest that is harmful to crops we could also be removing a food source for a certain species so can bad to their reduced numbers or even extinction.

GMO food have the potential to solve many of the world’s hunger and malnutrition problem, and to help protect and presence the environment by increase yield and reducing reliance upon chemical pesticides and herbicides, but when uses technology it also can have a negative effect too.
