Analysis Of Napoleon As A Strong Leader

Napoleon Bonaparte is known as one of the most influential leaders of Europe. However, some people believe that Napoleon wasn’t suited to be a good ruler because of his arrogance and power hungry attitude which may be true in some cases, but I think that Napoleon was a strong leader because he was quick to learn, a brilliant thinker, and a good general.

Napoleon was always eager to learn new things. He loved literature and was constantly reading classic books. He would thoroughly study the geography, cultures, and history of countries he would confront for a military campaign. In addition, Napoleon wasn’t afraid to ask questions. Although a proud man, Napoleon would grill someone with questions to better enlighten himself.

Napoleon was a brilliant thinker He had a compartmentalized mind or in other words, he was a great multitasker. He could set aside his stress about one situation and think with clarity about a separate issue. During a battle, he could clear his mind of stress and take a fifteen minute nap so that he would be refreshed and ready to continue the fight. Moreover, Napoleon had an amazing memory for details. During the campaign of 1805, one of his commanders couldn’t locate his division. They scrambled to find the location of the division but Napoleon recited the location, where it would be headed for the next three days, and the well being of each unit from memory.

Lastly, Napoleon was a great general. He was very successful in his military campaigns and led his armies effectively. The siege of Toulon and Napoleon’s victories in Italy in 1796 proved Napoleon to be a strong general. Out of sixty battles, Napoleon lost seven of them. He was a tactical and strategic man. He defeated larger armies with smaller forces by conducting what his enemies least expected. He used different battle tactics so that his enemies didn’t know what to expect.

In conclusion, I believe Napoleon was a strong leader. He was an open-minded and diligent ruler. When Napoleon ruled, France was a state with a constitution. He was an influential leader who laid down a stable set of laws to ensure civil liberties which has influenced France and parts of the world ever since.
