Analysis Of The Development Of My Worldview

My worldview is a reflection of my personal values and experiences. I believe that nature is created by a figure of god and therefore everything is part of nature. Humans are responsible for the environment and are obligated to preserve life and sustainability for future generations. This is because we do not own the earth and therefore must respect what is not ours. Nevertheless, society refuses to acknowledge that our practices affect the environment. If we continue to neglect our obligations to nature, we risk destroying our life system and possibly the human race. In another aspect of my worldview, I believe that community norms/rights are equally important to individual rights. We as humans have individual rights but those rights should not always come before others. Take, for example, a case where an individual in prison claims their right to vote. The community could reject this proposal based on their collective beliefs and I believe that their opinion should be equally important to the individual’s right given the circumstances. Through this assignment, I realized that my worldview is similar to those of my family and friends. I noticed how significant my parent’s influence was on my values and decisions after being raised at home.

One example is related to my parent’s understanding of nature through Buddhism. Similar to my worldview, the word nature to Buddhist represents everything we find in life except those that are man-made. It refers to things as they are, untouched and natural. However, there were a few systematic differences in worldview between my parents and me. Growing up in different generations and countries than my parents has led to some differences in our worldview especially in terms of religion. My parents, on one hand, were heavily influenced by their parents to conform to the practices and beliefs of Buddhism. Growing up a few generations back in Asia, many Chinese families were very religious and their worldview often only reflected Buddhism. On the other hand, I felt like growing up in a multicultural society (Canada), has allowed me to decide my own religious beliefs.

In addition, I believe that my worldview is similar to those of my friends because of similar ages and common mainstream beliefs. Generally speaking, I think in society today, most of our worldviews are similar because it’s uncommon for someone to stray far from the norm. I believe that my worldview gives me a negative perspective when analyzing this article. As mentioned, I believe that nature is provided by a godly figure and we are responsible for the environment.

With this in mind, I assume that regardless of what the government states, they will continue to exploit natural resources for their own profit and destroy the environment. In addition, my worldview in relation to community norms and individual rights blocks a positive perspective. I believe that corrupt American politics place their individual rights over community norms and rights. One example from the article that supports my assumption is Canada’s need for fresh food. Being able to close borders between Canada and Mexico, Trump could place his individual right to do so, over the Canadian “communities” need for the supply.
