Discussion Of Whether Maturity Is Measured By Age Or Experience

Age is just a number? Can your actions be determined by your age or your age is just a number? Maturity is what determines your actions at a certain time, place or situation, that how you react to it. Maturity is what makes a person responsible and the ability to know how to respond and act at different stages of life. There is a time and place for everything, and this is why people must learn to present themselves in the correct manner. Dealing with certain types of authority requires a certain amount of maturity towards the person you may come into contact with. I, for instance, have to present myself accommodatingly for the proper authority. This means that that I live in two different worlds. A world of presenting myself in the correct manner when dealing with a higher authority. Also, allowing myself to adjust to those whom are of lower authority then myself. The time when I realized that I was not making a good progress in my life, just hanging out with friends and not focusing much on my studies or had any plan for my future. I stood up and took my own responsibility to fulfill my life goals. I got out of my comfort zone and focused hard on my studies, set a plan which would lead me to achieve the goals I want to achieve and work hard for it. Maturity is not measured by age, it’s an attitude built by an experience.

Being mature is knowing the difference between what is right for you and what is wrong for you. Being a mature person doesn’t just happen overnight, and maturity doesn’t necessarily have an age. Rather Maturity depends more on a person’s sense of wisdom, humility, and responsibility. Being a mature person is coming terms with yourself and knowing who you are as an individual. In addition, it is where your priorities come in place and the responsible way in which you treat certain situations. A person who is mature, knows which decision is beneficial for him. What shows if you are mature? Knowing how much you don’t know, so listen more and talk less. Being aware of others as opposed to being self-absorbed, self-centered, and inconsiderate. Don’t take everything personally or get easily offended or feel the need to defend or prove yourself to anyone or make excuses for yourself. Being grateful and gracious for what you have and not complaining or comparing yourself to anyone. Taking responsibility for your own health and happiness, not relying on others to solve your problems for you or placing blame for your circumstances on others. Having forgiveness and Sympathy for yourself and others. Being calm and peaceful and not desperate for anything or irrational. Showing patience and openness as opposed to resisting, controlling, or being unreasonable. You should focus on positive things in your life.

A person, who is immature however has sings like not being responsible for his actions always and blaming others. Not admitting, if he is wrong. Has no schedule or routine and neither future planning for careers or life goals. Being unaware how to interact and deal with different types persons or unaware of how you affect someone’s felling. Knowing the difference between light teasing someone for entrainment or hurting/effecting someone’s felling by your actions. An immature person puts other people down in order to feel the bigger or dominant one in a social sitting. Always picking up fights and always engaging into arguments without having the sense to avoid it. Everyone at some point in life have to go through defeat or a loss but a mature person will learn from his/her loss and on the other hand immature person will not face it will always continue to make that mistake and become a sore loser. Being more impulsive and not thinking ahead, that what will happen next or not focusing on the future results of an action.

There is no specific age for maturity neither gender. A research was done on school students to find their level of maturity and weather gender, grade level or place they stayed had an effect or not on the level of maturity and the results showed no significant difference. So, there is no age group for maturing. According to an author “Maturity, one discovers, has everything to do with the acceptance of ‘not knowing.” (Danielewski)
