You will need to classify how important things are to you. To decide if they are worth spending your time, money, emotions and other forms of investment on. If you follow through with this, you will see visible changes in the quality of work and results. How do you define yourself - essay where I will share how to answer this question and how to set your priorities right.
What Are Your Priorities?
To set your priorities straight, you have to know them. To help your life and work and increase your success' rate, you must know who you are and what you are you going to do with your life. As easy as these two questions are, many cannot answer with a definite word. So let me ask, can you describe yourself in one word, what are you? A go getter? A comedian? A Feminist? Or a Psychologist? What about what you will like to do with your life?
Let me explain something real quick, what you do now, I mean your job might not necessary be what you want to do with your life. So can you tell me with two eyes closed that I John Doe, I am a comedian and I want to start a Laughter Clinic or I am Sherri Lue, I am Empathetic and I like to be a life coach.
I once read that if you don't (rigourously) define who you are and where you are going, you I'll end up somewhere else. It's true, it's the best thing since sliced bread. To define your priorities, you have to define yourself first. You must answer with all sincerity, who are you? And what do you want? Only after this do you write out what is important to you.
How To Define Who You Are?
This might sound easier than it looks but my friend it isn't. There are several aspects of our lives and each everyone of them can have an implication in who we become. To define who you are, you have to take a deep look into those things you do naturally.
You should look at those things you enjoyed doing as a child. That's is really who you are. Do you like helping people as a kid or you always 'treat your sick dolls' I think you are a doctor, no? Do you like building things from spare wood or even dismantling some of your parents' electronics to see what is making them tick, well my friend you should be an engineer. What if you like to shoot 'people' with you big black plastic gun. Should you become an assassin? No, there are legal jobs that require you use a gun that aren't bad. You could be a policeman or join the army. My brother had always love to shoot at imaginary people now he is in the army. Talking about doing what you love.
What of me, you might ask, have I been always a writer? The answer is yes, as long as i can remember i have. My parents told me i loved to make makings with my pen, it always brought me great joy to see my own writing. Take a deep breath and define who you are and what you want to be.
Your Priority Table
So now you know who you are and what you want to do, you have to make a list of things you can do that will bring our the best in you. Your list should include normal things like sleeping and socializing and or watching T.V. But it should also include your core moves, things to do that can see your dreams come true and make your life goes in the direction you wished.
Now get a pen and right down everything that you do (good and bad, don't judge yourself yet) everything you think you can do and everything you MUST do to get your dreams come through. Go over your list carefully and place a number ranging from 1 to 10 to show how important this or that is to you. 1 is least important, 10 most important.
Be very sincere, don't kid yourself, only you know exactly what you are doing that is sabotaging your dreams, you need to rank these low or if possible get rid of them totally. Assuming you gossip and it's totally taking your time and ruining your relationships, i think its time you got rid of this habit. Rank it zero. After you rank everything, now rewrite them in order of their rank. This is your new order and the yardstick which you follow in your life. Write it down in your journal, write it in your dairy, write it everywhere you can see it. Make sure you get it down into your mind, where it makes an imprint and stay forever.
