My Goal To Become A Second-Grade Teacher
My name is Tiffany Valdes and I want to become a second-grade teacher. I am currently a student at Miami Dade College and I am currently finishing my Associate of Arts Degree in teaching Pre-Elementary/Early Childhood Education on spring 2019. I plan to stay at the college I am attending and obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education by the year 2021. Once I obtain my Bachelor’s Degree I plan to teach for around 3-5 years at a Miami Dade Public School and then transfer to Highpoint Academy, which is a private school.
The Education career pathway for me has not always been my first choice of pathway. Some people know which profession to choose from on their earliest days of childhood, others make their decision by trial and error, which was my situation. I am nineteen years old and I have changed my major four times until now. Before I graduated high school, I wanted to become a Firefighter-Paramedic, took some classes for that career and also joined a cadet program to later discover it wasn’t for me. When I started college, I wanted to major in Business did not know what exact branch but I knew that one day I wanted to open my own business company. After my first business class I discover it was not my calling the business world. My second semester of college I decided to go back into the medical field and become a nurse since I already had some knowledge in the field and nursing was “much simpler” than Firefighter-Paramedic. But that field did not really fulfill my dreams I felt like I still was unsatisfied with my choice. I then thought about teaching, it was always on the back of my mind and it was always a career I liked but never saw myself doing it. I asked a few friends and family about this decision and they all encourage me to do it. Ever since I was little girl I remember how much I love to play with my sister “teachers”, lining up our dolls and teddy bears in rows and putting our own school assignments in front of them acting like we were teaching.
When I was in the eleventh grade I started working at a tutoring center as a tutor for kindergarten through third grade students. When students will come back to me happy sharing their grades or progress because of my help it will give me such a rewarding feeling. Having a child come to you with excitement all written in their face is just a joyful feeling. I think the teaching profession is the most life touching, the most “powerful” career there can be.
Every single person who has a profession has to be grateful of the teachers/professors they had. Because of educators is that there are doctors, lawyers, judges, counselors, officers, firefighters, engineers and so much more other profession. I want to become a teacher because I want to be able to change as many lives as I can. Direct children into the correct pathway because I do believe children are our future. I believe teachers are one of the most important functions performed in our culture. Teachers individually and collectively have the ability to not only change the world but also improve it. And I want to be a part of the group of teachers that impact students in a positive way and do make a change into individual lives.
Through all the classes that I have taken from elementary to college I have seen and experienced superior and inferior classroom environment. My personal goal as a future educator is to have a classroom that is superior, that challenges students to better understand themselves. I want to be able to create a positive classroom environment that creates the desire for students to want to learn. As a future teacher I want to be able to understand my students’ needs, values, motives, and self-perceptions. In my future classroom I want to be able to embrace the humanism education approach to teach my students.
