Facing Fear To Overcome It
Fear is a strong negative emotion that keeps a person from doing something and also a signal of danger and weakness. It is considered as one of most powerful emotion where it can change the course of action or make a situation seem more unfortunate. It is utterly unavoidable emotion and this is why most people cannot face it.
The amount of fear a person experience on a situation or a thing will depend on the person’s different perceptions, past experience, personalities, level of fear and so on. Accordingly it is classified into phobias. So if a person has a high level of anxiety on a particular thing or situation that means this person has that phobia. Fear is never good because it closes us from opportunities and lessons. Moreover people who can embrace fear are seemed to be more successful and comfortable than the ones who don’t. So this is why it is significant to learn to embrace fear to survive in this competitive world. The scariest situation that I have experienced in my life is public speaking and stage fright. This fear is known as Glossophobia. I used to and still have the stage fright and I regret not taking the opportunities of learning how embrace it. It used to feel impossible just too even walk up the stage and speak a word. Every time I take the chance, the fear of failure and embarrassment will cause me to shiver my voice and my brain just won’t function the way it does in other times.
Things that require courage for me to do are taking opportunities, apologizing and saying no. The word hesitation comes in play and it takes courage for me to overcome it. Hesitation and fear are interrelated because of one, the other will follow. So if there is fear, there will be hesitation and vice versa. Hesitation will come from assumption and pride. In-fact the following are the reason why I hesitate and due to this I missed opportunities and also I have let other people down. Learning not to hesitate and overcome fear is a pain in the back but with patients and diligence, I hope to free myself from these setbacks.
The best thing that could happen if I face fear is I will be able to take opportunities and not miss chances of learning and growing. Sometimes when I think that I embrace fear, I used to think that it is because of courage but when I come to think about it, it is more of arrogance and pride rather than courage and confidence. I did not know the difference between them until I had real confidence in my life. I learned that being arrogant did not help me to face fear in the long run because we will not be arrogant all the time and rather it just feed our ego and pride making us more stubborn. After facing fear, I get the sensation of excitement and accomplishment and this lead me to do it again.
