Reflection On The Emerging Professional Course
“One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confident is preparation. ”
When I started Church Teachers’ College I was a bit apprehensive about the whole concept of being a teacher. However, since I have started The Emerging Professional course, I have gained a new appreciation for teaching as well as observed changes in my own personal development. The emerging professional course has aided me in becoming more mature as well as putting in place the right attitude of someone who is considered a professional. Personal development is a lifelong process. It is a way for people to assess their skills and qualities, consider their aims in life and set goals in order to realize and maximize their potential. Over the past three months I have observed personal growth in many areas such as being more confident in myself, being more emotionally intelligent, improving my body language and developing my self-esteem.
When I started out I didn’t believe I possessed the quality to become a teacher. I knew I may excel academically but in other areas I was not so sure. Starting this course allowed me to asses myself and I realized that where I fell short I could develop on it. I have become more confident in myself. Being confident has allowed me to improve my self-worth as I value myself and my capabilities more. In addition when I face a problem instead of feeling weak and crippled I feel strong like I can overcome any problem. Being confident has also benefitted me in a great way as I have freed myself from self-doubt and so I am more relaxed, comfortable and at ease which makes it easier to be around others. This increases my social interaction with others which allows others to know me, respect me and overall trust me.
Lastly being more confident has allowed me to be more successful. This is because I believe and value myself so it is much easier to achieve my goals. I remember the first time I did a presentation, it was unorganized, I was nervous, second guessing myself and thought I might mess everything up even though I knew the content. However, as my self-confidence started to improve my other presentations were more organized, better able to deliver the content and connect with the students more. I was no longer nervous, so the presentations flowed smoothly. Being more confident has not only improved my personal growth but my professional growth as well. Being more confident has allowed me to develop my teaching abilities. The more confident I am the more prepared I will be which will result in me being more effective in conveying the lesson to be taught. As a teacher in training being more confident will help me in the classroom. This will allow me to interact more with my students, deliver the lesson well and also to be a positive role model to my students. Being a confident teacher, I will have a positive impact on my students’ achievements, attitude and socio-emotional growth. Lastly being confident in myself as a teacher in training will allow me to have a good teacher student relationship, as well as a good relationship with my fellow colleagues.
In conclusion I can say that the Emerging Professional course is a very important course in training to become a teacher. It aids in students’ professional development as well as personal development. I can truly say that this course has impacted me in a positive way as I have seen growth in many areas of my life. I am more self-aware and confident in myself. I now say I can instead of saying I can’t.
