Reflection on What Does It Really Mean to Know Oneself
Knowing oneself can be so hard since we humans are sensitive. If we fail once, we are quite frustrated and we overthink to the extent that we are already questioning ourselves about our capabilities and strengths which lead us to be afraid of trying over again because we are not sure about ourselves. There are two options of how we can understand ourselves better and I will share them in this knowing oneself essay.
I have considered two options for it, once a person fails, he or she might choose to live with it or might choose to start getting to know more about him/her self. If one will choose to stay with it then he might be struggling in expressing his thoughts and ideas most especially when he will be forced to limit his actions. On one hand, if he chooses to asses and gets to know more about himself there are things to ponder. Thus, an essential way to asses and reflect is by creating a step in determining what needs to know about oneself such as knowing the personality. I think that the first key is by understanding our personality, we should have our own database of info about what our personality really likes and who we really are in our isolated moments and our public moments as well.
The second key I think is to know about our body, we are the one who motivates ourselves and that we should say “our body can do this” and that we should have to take time to the most divine temple on earth, which is our body. And the third key is to know about our dreams, let us not forget our main goal in life. Our dreams and hopes serve as the pathway into our future. Knowing your dreams is like knowing yourself because dreams are important and it also matters. Therefore, knowing oneself is understanding the strengths and weaknesses, our fears and passion and our imaginations and dreams. Knowing oneself is being aware of our own likes and dislikes and most essentially is knowing oneself means knowing our purpose in life.
Our complex society sometimes judges our social activities such as the restriction of marrying with the same sex, forehead kissing between man and man as a sign of love, etc. I just can’t realize why does society care about one’s personal decision and actions knowing the fact that we humans know more about ourselves, we know what are the right things to do towards the right people and in the right way at the right time. Based on my experience, I got the chance to kissed my boyfriend’s forehead before going home but suddenly there were these group of people behind us, I was able to hear the words “hala-hala tan.awa sila oh” but we as educated persons, we don’t care about what they said because part of knowing oneself is knowing the purpose in life and that purpose is to not be afraid to show love and limit our actions because of other people’s judgments about our relationship.
In conclusion, talking about freedom in accordance with moral obligations, I think that we don’t fail to fulfill our duties as a member of the society since we abide with the laws, we respect people and tolerate them. But life is just so unfair. Thus, knowing oneself is overcoming the struggles and judgments a person received from society, knowing oneself is to fight for one’s right and knowing oneself is to understand and respecting other people’s life and judgments.
