Water Scarcity: One Of The Biggest Environmental Issues

Abstract

The video implicates that water is a very important and essential substance in giving life. The existence of any things on earth would simply be impossible without water. The video shows that with just a simple combination of two hydrogen atoms and one of oxygen have penetrated in to all the various nooks and crannies of the globe. The video also reveals that both human body and the whole earth is consists of almost 70% water. The video added that the earth is covered with a not so thick and almost uniform layer of water, but it is thinner, relatively speaking than the peel of an orange. The video also shows the contours of our planet devoid of this precious substance. It explains that the earth could be look like a squeezed lemon without this. The video cited some examples of the possible outcomes if water were removed on earth. It says that the earth would be gloomy, and dry future will await our planet without seas, oceans, streams and puddles. The video also sets Venus and Mars as good examples of this fate. In the middle of the video, it reveals a bit depressing fate that after billion years earth could possibly follow Venus and also be a hellish place. At the end, the video stated that our planet would be completely different without water, and without this, there would be no people, plants, animals and probably, life.

Reflection

In many years of existence of earth, water would probably be the most important and essential substance which makes plants, animals and human being live in that long period of time. Apart from drinking it to survive, people have many other uses for water. These includes: cooking, washing their bodies, their clothes, and their cooking and eating utensils. Additionally, it is also used in keeping houses and communities clean and keeping plants alive in gardens and parks. So, with these many uses of this substance, do people can really survive if water was dried up?Aside from the many uses of water to the daily living of human being, we can’t also deny the fact that human body is composed of 70% of this substance, so without this, human being would be impossible to exist. According to Everyday Health, the human body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulates its temperature and maintain other bodily functions. The human body loses water in all the actions they do, like breathing, sweating, and digestion, so it is just important to rehydrate their body by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water. Also, there are variety of factors that people need to remember in accordance to the amount of water they need to intake. Some of these factors are: the climate of the place where they live in, how physically active they are, and whether they’re experiencing an illness or have any health problems.

Now, in today’s time, the globe is facing a lot of problems and one of these is the problem which involves water. It is a problem not as water being the problem, but as humans being the problem to water. According to National Geographic, freshwater makes up a very small fraction of all water on the planet. Out of 70% of water that covers the earth, only 2.5 percent of it is fresh. The rest is saline and ocean-based. Even then, just 1% of the fresh water is easily accessible. In essence, only 0.007 percent of the planet’s water is available to fuel and feed its almost 7 billion people. Though we can’t say that lack of drinkable water is direct problem because it remained fairly constant over time, we can’t still avoid the fact that rapid increase of the population made it as one. Every year competition for a clean, copious supply of water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and sustaining life intensifies.

The above statement is not the only problem that involves water, but it is just one of the many cases that world’s facing in regards with this issue. From the video, the Earth was compared to Venus and Mars, and according to it, after billions of years Earth could follow to Venus and might also be a hellish place. Like Venus, Earth could also be enveloped in thick clouds, and sheds of sulfuric acid. The Sun will slowly warm the Earth, and as a matter of fact, people could now experience this event, which is commonly known as the “global warming”.

So at the end, it is important that people must know and learn the importance of water and the different effects of it if ever it was dried up. They should raise awareness to all regarding this issue, while it’s not yet late.Water is life. It is something which if people are not careful they could easily lose. So, let’s not just be seated and satisfied and wait for it to be dried up, let’s act and do our part to preserve it and use it in effective and efficient way.
