HDFC Bank Limited: Internship Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes are goals that describe how a student is different because of a learning experience. Learning outcomes is the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and habits of mind that students take with them from a learning experience. In the Fall of 2008 the Office of Student Life undertook a project to develop a learning outcomes and assessment plan for the Division of Student Life Programs and Services.
The purpose of this project was to ensure that as a Division we are working in a coordinated and coherent manner to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve specific learning outcomes during their time at the University of Toronto, and to increase our level of accountability for the programs and services we provide. The six weeks of Internship that I took in HDFC Bank Limited was a great and learning experience. I have learnt many aspects of job especially banking that will help me in placement procedure and future job. The internship gave me a practical knowledge of how things are done and practiced in the real organizations. The internship provided me the exposure of on the job training. It helped me learn how a particular product is pitched to the customer according to his needs and profit of the organization. It developed the skills of talking and effectively communicating to strangers and convincing them to buy your product or services. It gave me the learning to develop collaborative and team work skills and made me a team player for future purpose. It gave me the confidence to talk to people on phone and in person for the first time. It improved my interpersonal skills and networking capabilities. It taught me about the banking industry to a good extent. It increased my knowledge of banking terminology ranging from FTNR, RTGS, NEFT, KYC, NPA, ETC.
It gave me an understanding of how a commercial private bank works in a system. It provided me with the learning of importance of time management. It taught me how to handle the work pressure and meeting deadlines. It made me learn how achievable sales targets are set and achieved. It expanded my boundary what encompasses customer services and what are the different tactics and strategies used to achieve customer satisfaction.
I learned different process and procedures of banking operations like documents required and process for account opening for Indians, NRI’s, salary accounts, joint accounts, current accounts, loan procedures for automobiles, business loan, home loan, education loan, loan against assets, current accounts, demat accounts, account closure, investments options like FD’s, RD’s, etc.
It also inculcated a work behavior and responsibility taking ability in me. During my internship tenure, my Bank branch underwent Audit Check that is generally carried annually by the central and standardized team of officials. It is during this Audit check I came to know that every bank branch records every slip and receipt of transactions done in a day and bind together in a voucher according to the particular date so that it is easily accessible.
I also came to know about the procedure of availing annual leaves as one of the employees took the annual leaves for 8 days during my internship. There was one of the new staff as Personal Banker in the branch during my internship which let me know the joining formalities like registering oneself on oracle and flexcube software before even starting working. It also acquainted me with different kinds of forms and facilities provided by the bank. It also showed how drilling and daily work meetings are carried as branch manager usually conducted the meeting of all the staff members early in the morning. It provided me with insights of Forex exchange and cheque clearing procedures.
