The Path To A Higher Education
Twelve years of a child’s life are placed into education, going from elementary to high school. These years are a rollercoaster, filled with ups and downs, leaving some wanting to get off and never look back and some get back in line to ride all over again. Ones who choose to further their education are the ones who jump right back in line, they are determined to find success. Achieving their college goals could possibly be out of their range, however. Finding the right career and maintaining motivation is something students tend to struggle with as they try to balance the university’s demands with the outside world. Though difficult, achieving academic goals is not impossible. Building a support group within friends and peers and focusing on the bright future ahead can ease the stress and pressure.
By the time students are graduating from high school, many of them take little time off and push their way right through the college campus. The problem with this is students often fail to evaluate their career choices and personal interests as they are trying to get a career that makes them successful in today's world. “The erosion of the middle class,’ he said, ‘has put a lot more pressure on parents and students to make it big in the world or the consequences are dire” (What’s the purpose of college: A job or an education? 74-77). Students are not only pressured by the decision of what career is right for them, but also which career will help them pay back their college tuition which is now higher than years ago. The stress that is pushed down onto these students by the parents and the world around them are increasingly difficult which may result in drop outs and loss of motivation. Too much academic pressure is enough to make one question if what they are doing is the right thing. As tuition rates increase, the students have to make a hard decision on if they are going into is what they want or if it is going to make them enough money to survive on. With no motivation, students will become mentally exhausted and possibly give up their opportunity in academic success.
In times of need, such as the big commitment to a university, students can feel more alone than ever before. With the lack of motivation that they can begin to feel, a good support system is a way to overcome these obstacles that are blocking their path to a higher education. There is never a perfect strategy to knocking out a problem, yet there are ways to ease the pain they may cause. Students at a university connect more emotionally due to similar situations and can be a good open ear when needed. Positive outlooks are also a great way to not focus on the things that are going downhill. Someone who is down in life may question where they are headed, but focusing on the brighter days ahead of them after finishing their college degree can definitely uplift them. Overcoming struggles in the adult life is difficult, though having a good support system and staying positive are good ways of making these obstacles learning experiences.
