My Interest In Sciences Of Human Biology, Chemistry And Physics
The human body is incredible. Despite the many viruses, diseases and dysfunctional organs the body many have to face in a lifetime, the average age of death in the UK is eighty years old. Not only are we able to survive the toughest conditions, the human race is unbelievably intelligent to the point where we forget that we are animals just like dogs and cats. We have built so many extraordinary things were we no longer live outside in nature or have to hunt for our own food. We have created a society where our fight and flight response is no longer required and is now deemed an annoyance. The human race is so powerful that we no longer need evolve to adapt to the changes in the environment but rather we change the environment to fit our wants. Humans are the most unique species on this planet and I want to understand how and why we work. Why are we one of the most social species? How does the body work so well and in harmony with itself? In taking this course, hopefully I will be able to answer these questions and many more while fully understanding how complex, yet amazing the human race is. Taking Human Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Higher level has allowed me to develop my problem solving and analytical skills while answering some of the questions I have about the world and human race. Developing these skills in high school allows me to be prepared for further education. I thoroughly enjoyed the Higher Human Biology course and ended up getting the highest mark in my school for Higher Human Biology.
Although, for me, my Highers didn’t go into enough depth for me to be satisfied so in my final year of high school I have decided to continue learning and developing my understanding of Chemistry, Biology and Maths by taking them to Advanced Higher level. So far, my subjects have reinforced the idea that I want to continue to learn and develop my skills in the science field. Outside of school work, I have been able to obtain the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh which involved an expedition which lasted over two days and one night. The expedition was demanding, on the second day, it was raining non-stop but my group had to continue staying positive. Despite the horrible weather and pain we were in from carrying all of our stuff, we managed to keep the group moral up and work well together to get back to the campsite safety. I didn’t expect the expedition to be as difficult as it was but I’m glad I got to experience it. During the weekends, I work at a shop called Primark which has introduced me to people who come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Working at the tills has helped me grow my confidence and my social skills by communicating to those who I don’t know. Through working at a retail job, I have noticed that I am more communicative and less shy outside of work.
