The Role Of Marketing Department And Human Resources In An Organization
Marketing is aimed at passing information about a business and its products to the potential customers. It brings to the attention of the potential customers about the availability of a product, service, brand or an idea. As part of the marketing department at SanDisk, I have a responsibility of generating income by broadening the customers’ knowledge about our products and establishing new opportunities that have a potential of boosting our sales. It is also this department that engages with the customers, taking complaints and ideas from them with the purpose of making our product and services stand out or improve for the better.
The marketing department also manages and monitors our social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. Similarly, this department communicates with employees by sending them emails and newsletters about the company’s goals, priorities, and values. From time to time, the media interviews members of the company. It is the responsibility of the marketing department to liaise with the media houses for the purposes of arranging for such undertakings.
Lastly, it creates relationships with the audience, building a business awareness and interest in our products. Currently, businesses are struggling to secure a niche in the national, international and global markets. Competitiveness and hence the success of a business is being defined geographical coverage as this is directly translated to mean the number of customers. As companies start, they concentrate on the local market, later advance to the international market whereby they ensure that their products are available in the neighbouring countries and finally advance to the global arena. Because of the rapidly changing technologies, it is hard to amicably establish shifts in global marketing that face the transitional economies. To attain global recognition, a company must coin proper global marketing strategies that define their objectives, weaknesses, and strengths in the market.
Two strategies are currently used in the global marketing undertakings. These are the creation of a strong and consistent culture for the brands and use of a unified marketing approach all through the countries in which the products are sold.
In such a vastly growing and important department, the appropriate human resource is necessary. Considering the fact that drawing not only qualified but also competent employees is becoming necessary each and every day due to the lofty competition from companies, the marketing department has to be keen and look for particular qualities in candidates. Presently, attracting the employees with the right skills is highly challenging in big and competitive business sectors. In the bid to get the right employees, the marketing department is not only availing our products to the potential customers but also to potential employees. This is important as the potential employees are easily reached and made aware of the employment opportunities at the SanDisk company.
It is also important that the Human Resource department collaborates with the marketing department for the easy and strategic recruitment of the right employees into the department. Following from this, the Human Resource department gets an opportunity by establishing a brand culture through coming up with the relevant training, creating strategies to retain new employees, and coming up with a detailed employee analysis. In such a way, the HR and our department will be in the position of boosting the Human Resource’s ability who are dynamic and understand the constant growth and advancements in a company.
A company’s plan is developed only when there is a very careful plan of the future objectives that the company wants to attain. “Before companies recruit, they must implement proper staffing plans and forecasting to determine how many people they will need. The basis of the forecast will be the annual budget of the organization and the short- to long-term plans of the organization—for example, the possibility of expansion”.
In the future, the marketing department is likely to change the considerations when selecting the sources for human resource. In the dynamically changing world of business, employment considerations have shifted from just qualifications to talents and communication skills held by the candidates. The marketing department needs vocal people, who can not only increase the advertisement for our products but also increase the sales tremendously. Other than looking for employees in colleges and universities, the department is also looking forward to recruiting naturally talented individuals identified through holding product promotion campaigns in various places around the world. Apart from specialists like web designers and programmers, other employees like those who promote direct sales can be selected from artists who will help in the advertisements. The department is also willing to sign contracts with popular celebrities around the world so that they can help in the promotion of our products. The world is shifting from unidirectional employees to multidirectional employees and our marketing department is also actively adopting this move. The capabilities it will be seeking in employees will no longer be what they are best at but the number of tasks they can handle, and how well they can handle these tasks. For instance, if an employee is a perfect programmer and at the same time good at photographing and filming, the better. This is because such an employee, if not programming, will be helping in photographing as part of the marketing and brand promotion undertakings. This will eliminate the need of actually getting two employees for the two roles.
As a result, a company is able to cut on the employee expenses. Therefore, the more varied a human resource is, the better the chances of being considered during the recruitment exercise. It is also important to note that the employees that will be considered should also be capable of thinking critically and be able to solve problems that face the department and the organization in entirety, on a daily basis.
